The Moon TarotThe Moon

Description: The moon shows a large yellow luminous moon that is both full, new and rising. The waning moon can be interpreted as deception, disillusionment and delusion. The new moon represents promises, and the full moon symbolizes fertility and fulfillment. The moon is located between two towers indicating the boundary of the unknown land in the background.

Down below is a green hilly landscape, and a dog and a fox sit and watch and howl of the moon. The dog symbolizes the domesticated nature and the wolf, the wild nature. Out of the lake in the foreground, a crayfish crawls from the deep water of the subconscious, which none of the animals notice. The crab is an animal that belongs both on land and in the sea and is constantly moving between these two. There is a path through the landscape and between the animals, through the landscape and up into the mountains. It’s night in the picture; a time of darkness, sleep and dreams.

Interpretation: The card symbolizes illusions and uncertainty. The Moon symbolizes the gate or boundary between the known and the unknown. The card is sometimes referred to as the karma card, which refers to the work that needs to be done every day, which means that we stand at the gate every day and make the choice to stay on the old known side, or go through the gate to explore new sides of the world – ourselves. The term Karma card is very significant, since it is not a single choice, but more a lifelong pursuit and action. After all, karma means “work to be done”.

Presumably this is a time of change in your life, and in that connection, nothing works either good or bad, which can seem confusing. But the fluctuations and changes you experience need not be negative. just give the inner confusion room. Staying in the feeling can lead you to experience creativity and curiosity in a new way. Seek solutions to your problems through dreams and emotions, rather than logic and reason.

Keywords: Other words describing the Moon are: susceptibility, femininity, unconsciousness, sensations, wavering, deception, intuition, gradual change, change in personality and hidden enemies.

Prediction: Only intuition and not reasoning can move on. A situation where you only have to rely on yourself. Crisis of faith, defamation, deception, hidden enemies.

Number: The number of the card is eighteen, and one and eight give a total of nine, which is the number for loneliness and vulnerability.

Astrology: The card is linked to the astrological sign Pisces and its qualities: commitment to evolution and transformation.

Affirmation: I like the mystery of myself and others.

The Universal Principle: The Moon represents the universal principle of choice and authenticity.

Above are four very different versions of The Moon. Cary-Yale Visconti tarot cards from around the 1420s are mainly designed to be beautiful and shows friends and family. The beautiful old Italian tarot set also has its emphasis on the artistic expression. Marseille tarot cards are simple as they were made so they are suitable for wood printing. Oswald Wirth diminishes the Christian symbols and instead draws inspiration from the occult, through writings especially by Éliphas Lévi. The occult came from here on to influence how tarot cards were illustrated. Most famous is the Rider-Waite tarot card with lots of symbolism from Egypt, the Jewish Kabbalah, astrology, alchemy and Freemasonry. When you thus interpret The Moon you have different options. It is advisable to start with the illustrations we have from Rider-Waite as they contain a lot of information in their imagery.
